Exceptional Leave of Absence

The government changed the regulations on term time holidays and penalty notices from 1st September 2013. The amendments make clear that schools ‘may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances’. The statutory threshold of 10 school days and references to family holidays have been removed.

Also changes to penalty notices. Parents must, from 1st September 2013, pay £60 within 21 days or £120 within 28 days (a much shorter period), for parents who fail to ensure that their child regularly attends school or has their excluded child in a public place during the first 5 days of exclusion. This allows local authorities to act faster on prosecutions.

Please note we will not authorise any term time holidays unless they are exceptional circumstances. If you require further information regarding leave, please arrange to speak to Mr Smith or Mrs Broderick our Pastoral Officer
